2017 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Broadview Public School, Ottawa

2017 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Broadview Public School, Ottawa - TiltWall Ontario

Tilt Wall Ontario has been awarded a Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) 2017 Achievement Award in the Educational Division for their work on Ottawa’s Broadview Avenue Public School.

The TCA Achievement Awards program was established in 1992 to honour projects that use site-cast Tilt-Up concrete to introduce new building types, advance industry technology and provide unique solutions to building programs.

Completed in 2016, the new Broadview Avenue Public School replaces an 89-year-old school building located in an urban neighbourhood. The project presented several challenges, including a tight casting site and an aggressive 11-month construction timeline.

The 75,000 SF state-of-the-art facility features a sun-filled library – located in the glass corner of the building on the second floor – wide corridors, and 42 homerooms for the school’s 950 elementary students.

The exterior design showcases the flexibility of the tilt-up method, with its mixture of red brick veneer, colourful architectural forms, and concrete finishes that incorporate recessed images of children’s artwork.

Broadview Avenue Public School was commissioned by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, who recognized the speed of erection, durability and energy efficiency of the tilt-up method.

Project partners included Edward J. Cuhaci and Associates Architects Inc., Cunliffe and Associates (Engineer of Record) and Frecon Construction Ltd. (General Contractor).

This is the fourth time that Tilt Wall Ontario has been recognized with a TCA Achievement Award. Previous award-winning projects include Richmond Hill Medical Centre, London, Ontario (2016), 1269 Commerce Way, Woodstock, Ontario (2015), and Humber College North Campus Academic & Student Services Addition, Toronto, Ontario (2009).

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) is the international nonprofit trade association for the global tilt-up concrete construction industry and was founded in 1986 by a dedicated group of contractors, professionals, and manufacturers with the interest of improving the quality and acceptance of tilt-up construction. Tilt Wall Ontario is a TCA member.
