2024 Server Farm TOR2.1 Data Centre

March 5, 2025
The Server Farm TOR2.1 Data Centre is Ontario’s first tilt-up panel data facility, built to meet growing data storage demands. Originally planned with precast panels, the project pivoted to fully insulated tilt-up panels due to supply chain delays. Site constraints required casting 49 composite panels—covering 43,542 sq. ft.—on a temporary slab before dual-crane transfers placed them in position. These panels, though non-load-bearing, efficiently transferred shear and lateral loads, reducing steel costs.

Construction faced challenges, including permit delays and tight site conditions, which were overcome through meticulous planning. The use of a dual-crane operation, supported by a 3D preplanning model, ensured precise and safe panel placement. A young, highly skilled crew, with an average age of 31, successfully completed the project, demonstrating the next generation’s capabilities in complex construction.
In addition to it’s TCA award, it was recognized in the Ontario Builder Awards (Group 3, Innovation Category), this project highlights tilt-up construction’s potential in data center development. Beyond advancing construction methods, the data center supports local economic growth and strengthens Ontario’s tech infrastructure.
TILT-UP ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Tilt-Up Achievement Awards were established to honor projects that use site-cast tilt-up concrete to introduce new building types, advance industry technology and provide unique solutions to building programs. Winning entries illustrate the variety, beauty, and flexibility of tilt-up construction.
