Construction of the JanVeek Model 1000, an innovative tilt-up house, was completed in just six weeks. This 1,000-square-foot, single-story home showcases the efficiency and affordability of tilt-up construction for residential use. The project utilized 15 fully insulated tilt-up panels and insulated metal panels for the roof, ensuring superior energy efficiency. The tallest panel reached 11 feet 6 inches, while the widest measured 34 feet 9 inches.
The Model 1000 addresses Ontario’s housing crisis by offering a rapid, cost-effective solution, with a total build cost under $300,000. The exterior features form liners and textured painting, while the interior boasts smooth concrete walls, eliminating the need for drywall. By leveraging tilt-up technology, the project achieved significant time and cost savings without sacrificing quality.
Overcoming budget and scheduling challenges required detailed preparation and collaboration with all trades. The team successfully maintained affordability by streamlining construction processes and minimizing delays. A key engineering challenge involved concealing panel connections for a seamless aesthetic while ensuring structural integrity.
The Model 1000 is the first affordable tilt-up home in Ontario, generating significant public interest, with over 150 attendees at its grand opening, including government officials. Its energy-efficient design reduces environmental impact, while on-site casting minimized material waste and transportation. The success of this project paves the way for future residential tilt-up construction, offering a scalable, sustainable solution to the housing crisis.
