Broadview Public School
This 74,973-square-foot two-storey elementary school in Ottawa was finished in only 11 months in 2016. To save time, the panels were cast through winter, which provided many challenges, but Tilt Wall was able to solve all of the challenges that the client needed addressed.
The school site was extremely small, and so additional casting slabs had to be poured, further limiting access to the site. Thorough coordination had to take place between all parties involved for the facility to be built safely, on time and on budget.
This school and its architect really wanted to showcase the power of concrete with unique artistic imprints and embedded brick patterns on the exterior of the insulated walls. Students’ handprints were cast, while the towering panels also resulted in energy efficient interior spaces at construction costs that rival traditional methods.
This school project really emphasizes the capabilities of tilt-up construction: intricate designs, small work spaces and using concrete to create warm interior spaces.
