Project Details
The three-storey Home for Good is a life-changing affordable housing solution in Belleville, Ontario, that opened its 41 units in the spring of 2020.
The County of Hastings worked with community support service organizations to create a plan for this affordable housing solution with many goals: to provide shelter for those in need, to have an attractive design, to reduce maintenance costs and have durability to last many years. The County also had a fast-approaching deadline, which meant structural work needed to be completed over the winter.
Geertsma Construction brought Tilt Wall on board to deliver a superior structure that met all of their goals. Using tilt-up construction, more than 33,000 sq ft of panels, including a temporary casting slab, were cast onsite. Large heaters were brought in to allow for proper concrete curing. The exterior of the building’s brick texture was accomplished using form liners.
The result of this project is nothing short of remarkable. Home for Goos is an award-winning affordable housing solution and a prime example of the versatility of tilt-up construction. And highlights how its cost-effective usage can help make affordable housing an achievable reality for many.
