Netherend Acres Barn
Project Details
Completed in 2001 in Ingersoll, Ontario, the Netherend Acres Barn stands as a landmark project in our early portfolio. Initially designed as a poured-in-place concrete structure, the plan shifted to tilt-up construction due to a regional shortage of forming contractors. At the time, Google was still in its infancy, and YouTube hadn’t yet been launched—making access to construction resources and visual guides far more limited than it is today. As a result, the project became a significant learning experience for our team and played a pivotal role in shaping many of the tilt-up techniques we continue to use to this day.
Spanning a substantial footprint of 110,589 square feet, the building was constructed using 293 tilt-up panels. The tallest panel reached a height of 21 feet, 11 inches, which also matched the overall building height. The largest individual panel measured 624 square feet, and the heaviest panel weighed in at an impressive 53,400 pounds.
This barn includes both insulated and non-insulated panels. With 19,784 square feet of insulated wall surface and 55,484 square feet of non-insulated panels. All panels were left with an untreated concrete finish, in keeping with the project’s functional agricultural design.
Developed for Netherend Acres, the project was led by Double O Construction Inc. As the general contractor, with structural engineering services provided by McNeil Engineering & Construction Inc. Despite the challenges posed by the transition to tilt-up construction. This build marked a turning point in our approach and expertise. Paving the way for more innovative and efficient methods in future projects.
