Toronto District Christian High School
Project Details
The independent Toronto District Christian High School was facing significant growth. This required a large-scale expansion to accommodate its increasing student population and enhance the overall learning environment. The school not only needed additional space for classrooms and administrative functions but also had several specific goals for the expansion. These included durability, energy efficiency, and an attractive exterior finish.
Tilt-up construction proved to be the perfect solution to meet these complex needs. This method involved pouring concrete walls on-site, resulting in a structure that was both durable and energy-efficient. The concrete walls were designed with insulation sandwiched between two layers of concrete. Which significantly reduced air flow and helped regulate indoor temperatures. This insulation helped lower energy costs by maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the building, ensuring an efficient use of resources.
A distinctive feature of this project was the intricate pattern laid across more than 6,000 linear feet of individual strips before the panels were poured. Once the panels were tilted into place, the pattern was revealed. Giving the building a unique and visually appealing exterior finish that added to its attractiveness.
Construction began on June 6, 2019, with the pouring of the casting slab. Panel construction started on July 23, and the final panel was lifted into place on October 30. Completing the project on schedule. The result was a strong, energy-efficient building that not only met the school’s functional requirements but also enhanced its appearance, providing a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors. This tilt-up construction approach proved to be an ideal solution for creating a durable, energy-efficient, and aesthetically pleasing expansion, setting the stage for the school’s continued growth and success.
