Toronto District Christian High School
Project Details
This independent Christian school required a large-scale expansion to better meet the needs of its growing student population.
Along with the space requirements, the school had a number of desires for the structure of the expansion that made the project quite challenging. It needed to be made of durable materials, it had to contribute to lower operation costs through energy efficiency, and it needed to have an attractive exterior finish.
Fortunately, tilt-up construction met all of these challenges. Concrete walls are extremely strong, each exterior wall being sandwiched with insulation that greatly reduces air flow and helps to regulate temperatures. Prior to pouring the exterior concrete slabs, Tilt Wall laid more than 6,000 linear feet of individual strips in an intricate pattern, which were revealed once the panels were tilted into place.
Construction started June 6, 2019 when the casting slab was poured. Panel construction began July 23, and the final panel was lifted into place on October 30.
