Project Details

In 2017, an innovative research facility in Guelph, Ontario, underwent an expansion to accommodate a growing need for space. The project involved adding 5,393 square feet to their existing building, enhancing the facility’s capacity for research and development. To achieve this, Tilt Wall was tasked with constructing and installing 24 panels, which were a blend of insulated and non-insulated types. The panels were uniquely designed using integral coloured concrete, providing both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

The construction process was both efficient and precise. Tilt Wall began by pouring the floor, then proceeded to cast the panels on-site. These panels were designed with intricate lines and textures, making them not only functional but visually striking. The casting process was completed swiftly, and within hours, a crane was used to lift each panel into place, highlighting the impressive design of the structure.

The project, located at the University of Guelph, was managed by AEC Developments, with architectural and structural engineering design provided by WalterFedy. The panels were designed to fit specific technical specifications, with the heaviest panel weighing an impressive 61,500 pounds and the tallest reaching a height of 20 feet 3 inches. The largest panel covered a substantial 657 square feet. A total of 6,976 square feet of insulated panels and 2,438 square feet of non-insulated panels were incorporated into the design. The use of integral coloured concrete for the exterior finish added both durability and a sophisticated appearance to the expanded research facility.
