Humber College – Building B
Project Details
Humber College required an 83,694-square-foot expansion for new academic classrooms, a student testing centre and administrative space as main components of their three-storey North Campus Academic and Student Service Building.
This post-secondary project was not without challenges. The footprint was very small, leaving little room for construction operations, it was also adjacent to a main fire route that had to remain usable at all times, and the design needed to be engaging enough for students to connect with.
Using 60 coloured concrete panels cast and tilted onsite, the tilt-up process simplified construction and kept the project on budget. Innovative details including coloured walkways and a cantilevered tilt-up panel above the front entrance, which added interest to the structure without increasing costs.
In keeping with the college’s sustainable-design goals, the building is thermally efficient and continues to show a reduction in heating and cooling costs for the College.
